As of February 7, 2024, approximately 26 percent of the total land area of India was affected by drought conditions ranging from moderate to exceptional. This was more than double the land area that was affected by drought in the same month the previous year. Around nine percent of India's land area was suffering from extreme drought conditions in February 2024.
