The United States had the highest emissions from passenger and freight flights worldwide in 2019, with 228 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂). U.S. total flight emissions were more than double those produced in China that year. The U.S. airport with the largest carbon footprint in 2019 was Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
