Revenue of the halal cosmetics market in Europe 2018-2032, by country

In 2022, France was the biggest market in Europe for halal beauty products, recording a revenue of around 671.78 million U.S. dollars. This figure was forecast to follow an upward trend and grow up to over 1.56 billion U.S. dollars by 2032. Germany was the second largest market with a revenue of over 550 million U.S. dollars.

The halal beauty market

Halal beauty is becoming more and more important in many areas of the globe, since it allows consumers to purchase and use products that are in line with their beliefs. In fact, halal beauty products only contain ingredients that meet the standards of the Islamic laws. The global halal beauty market generated a turnover of more than 27 billion U.S. dollars in 2022, and this value is expected to increase up to 63.6 billion U.S. dollars by the year 2030. Skincare was the most profitable market segment that year, having generated revenues of around 11.5 billion U.S. dollars. Another category that recorded remarkable results was that of color cosmetics.

The halal beauty consumer

To many consumers, the way their beauty items are formulated and produced is becoming increasingly important. In Indonesia, the largest halal beauty market, the number of consumers who pay attention to product labels when shopping for beauty items has increased since 2019. About 75 percent of Indonesian shoppers taking part in a 2023 survey also stated that they preferred to use beauty and personal care products that were halal and suitable for their skin. Among the most used halal beauty and personal care items in Indonesia are toothpaste, shampoo, face wash and cleansers, as well as deodorants and face moisturizers.
