In 2022, over 40 percent of all the ransomware targeting the Italian private sector that was treated by the country's technical and operational offices of the Agenzia per la Cybersicurezza Nazionale (Italian National Cybersecurity Agency) affected small enterprises. According to the source, the figure might be higher as small and medium companies do not report the events to the authorities and decide to handle the case on their own. In comparison, around 31 percent of the ransomware events reported to the cybersecurity agency affected large enterprises.
