410 billion current U.S. dollars were spent on electric cars across the globe in 2022. Consumers made up just over 89 percent of this spending. While more government organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency called for reducing transport emissions, governments worldwide spent some 45 billion current U.S. on electric passenger vehicles in 2022.

Data uses 2022 as the basis for current U.S. dollars.
The source specifies that: "Government spending is the sum of direct central government spending through purchase incentives and foregone revenue due to taxes waived specifically for new electric cars. Only central government purchase support policies for electric cars are taken into account. Spending on charging is not included. Consumer spending is the total expenditure based on model price, minus government incentives. Excludes incentives for company cars."
