Worldwide supply of low-emissions hydrogen stood at approximately two billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent (bcme) in 2022. This figure is forecast to grow over the next decade, reaching 23 bcme in 2030 under a STEPS scenario or up to 232 bcme under a NZE scenario. While the first scenario is based on current policies and those under development, the second assumes that the global energy sector will achieve net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050. An important component of the net-zero scenario is to down-scale natural gas production globally.
