Volkswagen Truck and Bus: vehicle sales 2019-2023, by segment

In 2019, the majority of Volkswagen Truck and Bus vehicle sales was from the trucks sector, with about 35 thousand trucks and 6.6 thousand buses sold. Sales decreased through 2020 reaching 31 thousand trucks and 5.7 thousand buses and continue to decrease into 2021, reaching 25 thousand trucks and 5.2 thousand buses. In 2022, vehicle sales saw significant growth with 47 thousand trucks and 7.1 thousand buses sold. Finally in 2023, vehicle sales fell again reaching 31 thousand trucks and 6.3 thousand buses.

The period of decline in vehicle sales during and following 2020 was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only VW Truck and Bus that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
