Average variable interest rate Australia 2020-2025, by mortgage type

As of March 2025, the average variable mortgage interest rate for Australian owner-occupier borrowers with outstanding loans was around 6.1 percent. In comparison, the average investor interest rate for outstanding loans was approximately 6.3 percent. New loan interest rates for owner-occupiers and investors were slightly lower that month, at six and 6.2 percent, respectively.
