MAN: production 2016-2023, by segment
Vehicle production saw both steady and significant increases from 2016 to 2019. With the truck sector holding the major share, production grew from 92 thousand units in 2016 to 112 thousand units in 2019. Bus production grew less substantially from 10.2 thousand up to 13.7 thousand whilst light commercial vehicle production saw significant increases up to 15.9 thousand units produced. In 2020, significant decreases occurred where the number of trucks produced fell to 57.4 thousand, less than any other reported year. The number of buses also fell, while light commercial vehicles kept rising. A period of turbulence was observed after 2020, where truck production grew to about 65 thousand units in 2021 and then fell to 62 thousand in 2022. But an upswing in production was observed in 2023, where every segment saw increases in production, with truck production reaching about 85 thousand units.
The brief period of decline in production was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only MAN that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
