Through 2016 to 2019, Scania saw a period of generally steady growth with operating results climbing from about 555 million euros in 2016 up to about 1.5 billion euros in 2019. In 2020, Scania saw a decline in operating results to about 802 million euros. However, this short period of decline was followed by a period of extensive growth from 2021 to 2023, with operating results of about 1.4 billion and 2.3 billion euros respectively.
The brief period of decline in operating result was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only Scania that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
