In 2021, around four in ten Medicare beneficiaries who identified as male and died in 2021 were hospice patients. This is ten percent less than female decedents. Hospices provide end of life medical care, pain management, as well as emotional and spiritual support.

This calculation compares how each group accesses hospice but does not compare size of the groups or health disparities or inequities factors which can impact those who access Medicare.
