According to a survey conducted in 2023, Portuguese consumers who wanted to purchase a car but did not consider purchasing an electric vehicle were disincentivized due to the high purchase price of electric cars. Over a quarter of respondents further highlighted potential problems with charging an EV and beliefs that EV driving range is too limited for their needs as factors ruling out electric cars from their consideration.

Participants selected up to two answers.
Respondents came from national samples from each country. The quota approach was employed to ensure that the sample was representative of gender and age.
* The respondent count includes respondents who wanted to buy an electric vehicle and who did not want to buy a car. 59 percent of respondents in Portugal were planning to buy a car, and 28 percent of these respondents had electric cars in mind for this purchase.
