According to a survey conducted in 2022, around half of Japanese people had experience with wearing kimonos. Respondents aged 70 and older had the most experience and were also more likely to know how to put on the garments by themselves, with around 23 percent.
Kimonos generally refer to various long Japanese dresses. The art of kimono dressing (kitsuke) follows a set of rules and customs, which dictates the appropriate type of dress for an occasion, the way of putting it on, and the accessories going with a dress, among others.
