Around half of Japanese people had experience with wearing kimonos, as revealed in a survey conducted in 2022. While 11 percent of respondents stated that they knew how to put on the Japanese dress or even had helped somebody put it on, the larger share of wearers had somebody help them put it on.
Kimonos generally refer to various long Japanese dresses. The art of kimono dressing (kitsuke) follows a set of rules and customs, which dictates the appropriate type of dress for an occasion, the way of putting it on, and the accessories going with a dress, among others.
