Leading Google phones worldwide 2024, by display quality

As of January 2024, Google Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 jointly led in display performance, with a DxoMark score of 154. The Google Pixel Fold ranked third, recording a DxoMark score of 151. Other models recorded lower scores.

The display market is thriving

Displays are a major component of our electronic devices, including smartphones. In recent decades, the smartphone display market has grown and counted almost two billion smartphone panel unit shipments in 2023. The industry hosts many different players, all trying to cut themselves fair shares of the market. In 2023, the Chinese display manufacturer BOE led the way, shipping around 560 million smartphone panels. SDC and Tianma ranked second and third, with shipments of 350 and 180 million, respectively.

Samsung leads the foldable smartphone market

The past couple of years have seen manufacturers bring back foldable technology and apply it to smartphones. In 2023, almost 20 million foldable smartphones were shipped worldwide, and this number is forecast to increase in coming years, as more device vendors enter the market. In 2023, Samsung ruled over the foldable market, holding a share of almost 70 percent. Other vendors released their own foldables, including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Google, but still occupy lower shares.
