Through 2016 to 2019, the Traton Group saw a period of steady growth with gross profit climbing from about 4.3 billion euros in 2016 up to about 5.3 billion euros in 2019. In 2020, the Traton Group saw a decline of gross profit to about 3.5 billion euros, less than any of the previous years. Finally, this short period of decline was followed by a period of extensive growth from 2021 to 2023, with gross profits of about 5.5 and 9.2 billion euros respectively.
The brief period of decline in gross profit was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only the Traton Group that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
