The major producer of natural gas and biomethane in Italy was Eni, with a volume of almost 1.86 billion cubic meters of gas. Royal Dutch Shell and Edison were the second main producers of gas in Italy. Natural gas production in Italy has progressively decreased since 2007 and amounted to 2.8 billion cubic meters in 2023.
