Amfilochia, a hydro-pumped energy storage project located in Greece, was the most expensive of the 12 energy storage projects in the permitting stage in Europe, with an estimated operative expenditure of some 16.5 million euros per year. The expanded hydro-pumped storage facility Kaunertal, Austria, will account for the second-largest operative expenditure in the region, as well as for the largest capital expenditure.
