There were 12 energy storage projects in the permitting stage in Europe in 2022, of which the majority were hydropower energy storage plants. Six of them were located in Spain.
It was estimated that the capital expenditure for the extension of the hydro-pumped energy storage project Kaunertal, located in Austria, will amount to 870 million euros.
