The expenditure on procuring and maintaining the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) rose consistently since the financial year 2020. As per the latest budget estimates for the financial year 2024, the Central government allocated almost 19 billion Indian rupees for EVMs, with an additional demand of over six billion rupees tabled during the Winter Session of the Parliament.
