In 2023, the state of Karnataka had 34 of the richest Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in India, the highest among other states. It was followed by Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Most of the rich MLAs came from the southern states of India. Various factors could be responsible for these figures such as more transparency in declaring assets, more high-net worth individuals taking to politics, or diversified investments in real estate and mining as compared to northern counterparts.
