Romanians most often paid in 2022 with cash or plastic cards. However, cards were chosen by fewer people than in other countries. Third place among the most frequently used payment methods was occupied by contactless payments using phone, watch or other devices, but often less than one in five people used them. Cash was used when other methods were not available or simply because of people’s habit. Cards were appreciated for ease of use and convenience, same as contactless payments.
