Gallium production globally has increased since 2017 when the production quantity totaled 310 metric tons. Countries classified as politically unstable accounted for the largest proportion of gallium production in the world, at 611 metric tons in 2022.
China dominates the global supply of gallium, with its production having accounted for a 96 percent share of the worlds' total production in 2021. Gallium is also produced by other countries worldwide, albeit in significantly smaller amounts. After China, Russia was the second-largest gallium producing country worldwide, with primary production totaling five metric tons in 2021.
The utilization of gallium in electronics has resulted in its status as a critical resource. Production of analog integrated circuits is the main end-use of gallium in the United States, with a consumption of 11.5 metric tons in 2021. With the demand for gallium increasing worldwide, the price of gallium is also following this trend with a high of 755.8 U.S. dollars as of January 2024.
