Changes in consumer spending patterns China 2022, by category
According to a survey conducted in November 2022, more than 30 percent of the respondents in China had spent less on non-essential items compared to a year ago, with 43 percent of the respondents reporting a decline in spending on luxury goods. On the other hand, over 30 percent had spent more on staples. However, the increase in essential expenditure was mostly under 50 percent.
