The large-scale battery storage capacity in California, United States, surpassed five gigawatts in 2023. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) accounted for 2.3 gigawatts of stand-alone battery storage projects, while the remaining storage capacity in the state was hybrid or in co-location with other renewable energy systems.

California was the leading state in terms of installed battery storage in the country.
