Monthly carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption in the United States typically follow a similar pattern each year. Emissions usually peak in January and drop to lows in April. Monthly emissions throughout 2020 were lower than normal due to the outbreak of COVID-19, with emissions in April of that year almost 80 MtCO₂ below what they were in the same month in 2019.
