As of 2024, Europe had the second-highest number of public pension funds (PPFs) worldwide, and Asia followed in third place with over 50 PPFs. Sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) were lower in scale, with the highest number in one region totaling 36 in Sub-Saharan Africa. Europe hosted the largest level of central banks in 2024, reaching almost 50 in total.
