The number of state-owned investors (SOIs) grew steadily from before the 1940s through the 2020s. The establishment of public pension funds (PPFs) accounted for the majority of SOI growth, with 53 PPFs being created prior to the 1940s, this trend continued. As of the 2010s, roughly 30 PPFs were created. The establishment of sovereign wealth funds (SWF) was more staggered, with 13 being established before the 1940s and then an additional eight being created in the 1970s. However, it appears that the creation of SWFs is beginning to steadily increase, as an upward trend was seen from the 1980s onward. Similarly to PPFs the largest portion of central banks created was before the 1940s.
