The energy produced by heat pumps in Portugal has soared between 2020 and 2022. While heat pumps in Portugal generated approximately 626,000 tonnes of oil equivalent in 2020, they generated 851,000 tonnes of oil equivalent in 2022. Heat pumps play a relevant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as they are more energy-efficient than other heating and cooling devices. Nevertheless, Portugal had one of the lowest numbers of heat pumps sold in Europe that year.
