More cafes, restaurants, and bars and more small and independent businesses were also popular reasons.

Respondents were initially asked whether their local high street was improving or getting worse, thinking about aspects such as quality of shops, cleanliness, safety, community atmosphere and vibe. Respondents who replied that their high street was improving were asked why this was. They could select all that applied.
