According to a survey conducted in July 2023, a few days after the presumed murder of Nahel Merzouk by a police officer and after the riots which mostly happened in suburban areas of Paris, a total of 67 percent of French respondents believed racism existed to a certain extent, within the police force. On the other hand, 22 percent of those surveyed claimed racism was non-existent in the police institution.
