Mental hospitals provided the largest number of beds for mentally ill persons in Ghana, compared to other mental health facilities in the country. This referred to close to 70 percent of the beds. Moreover, community based psychiatric inpatient units were responsible for eight percent of the mental health facility beds. In 2021, more than 48.1 thousand cases of mental illness were registered in facilities under the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG).
