According to a survey conducted in July 2023, just a few days after the fatal shooting of Nahel Merzouk by a police officer in Nanterre, France, 28 percent of French respondents agreed that the police were racist, while 38 percent of them acknowledged that in general, the police made excessive use of violence during arrests.
