According to a survey conducted in June 2023, two days after the fatal shooting of Nahel Merzouk by a police officer in Nanterre, France, 43 percent of French respondents were trustful of the police force, while for 14 percent of them, the police even inspired sympathy. On the other hand, for nearly one quarter of those surveyed, the French police force gave them a feeling of worry, and for eight percent of them, even hostility.
