In 2023, the combined annual methane emissions of the Nordic countries reached the lowest figure in the past three decades, at 38.43 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Norway recorded the highest emissions within the region, with 13.83 MtCO₂e emitted. This represented 35 percent of Nordics methane emissions that year. Finland recorded the biggest decline in emissions in the past 10 years, while Danish methane emissions increased by over seven percent in the same period.
