Value of semiconductor machinery imports and exports in China 2022, by type

In 2022, Chinese chip companies imported almost 19 billion U.S. dollars-worth of machines for chip and semiconductor manufacturing. Overall, the Chinese semiconductor industry imported around 35 billion U.S. dollars in machinery but exported only around four billion U.S. dollars in semiconductor equipment. It illustrated that despite increased efforts from the Chinese government to build a domestic chip industry, companies still heavily relied on imported equipment. While the country has made significant improvements in manufacturing capabilities, it still lacks in the semiconductor equipment domain.
