In 2015, neonatal mortality in the Netherlands was 2.46 deaths per 1,000 live births. Between 1980 and 2015, the neonatal mortality rate in the Netherlands has decreased from approximately five deaths per 1,000 live births to less than 2.5. The neonatal mortality rate is an indicator used to assess the heath and well-being of newborns during the first 28 days of life. This indicator is used for health system evaluation, targeted interventions and public health planning, among other uses.
