In 2022, the Indian state of Maharashtra had the highest insured amount under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme during the kharif season, reaching over nine billion India rupees. It was followed by the states of Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh.
WBCIS aims to provide insurance protection to farmers against adverse weather conditions like deficit and excess rainfall, high or low temperature, humidity, etc., which can negatively impact crop production.
