According to a survey carried out in Italy in 2022, PayPal dominated online payments of health and pharmaceuticals in Italy, with 34.1 percent of Italian shoppers opting for the payment method. Pre-paid and credit cards followed with 24.1 and 21.7 percent of preferences, respectively.

The categories considered include self-medication (OTC drugs, SOP, Supplements and Medical Devices), dermatological products, medication products, food and dietary products, homeopathic products, electromedical instruments and accessories for diagnostics and orthopedics,as well as contact lenses, eyeglasses and other optical products.
