Projected number of seats won by parties in the European Parliament Elections 2024

The next European Parliament elections will take place in June 2024, with parties on the right of the political spectrum expected to be the biggest winners in terms of seats won, while parties of the center are projected to lose seats in the elections. Some of the seats lost in this election by the main centrist parties (EPP, S&D, Renew Europe) can be accounted for by changes to the structure of the parliament, as the United Kingdom had not yet left the EU at the time of the last elections in 2019. With the UK's exit in 2020, the parliament was reduced from 751 to 705 seats, with an extra 15 seats to be divided among the member states in 2024, meaning that there will be 720 seats to win in total. 

The parties of the right, the ECR group and Identity and Democracy, are expected to gain 18 seats and 3 seats respectively, as these parties have capitalized on Europeans' concerns about immigration, as well as dissatisfaction among some citizens with the parties of the center following the COVID-19 pandemic, war in Ukraine, and subsequent inflation crisis. The left group (GUE/NGL) is also set to gain four seats in 2024, as their core issues of poverty and social exclusion are the top priorities among European citizens going into the elections.
