In 2022, Saudi citizens made up 55 percent of the electronic monetary institutions (EMI) digital wallet retail customers in Saudi Arabia. The remaining 45 percent were foreign nationals; this was a shift from 2018 when Saudis were estimated to be 83 percent of the customer base. Between 2018 and 2022, the ratio of Saudi national and foreign national retail customers constantly fluctuated, and although Saudi citizens always made up the majority of the customer base, by 2022 the figures were almost evenly split.
