From 2009 to 2021, the prevalence of anemia in children aged 6 to 59 months in Peru decreased from 37.2 percent to 28.4 percent. Anemia is a condition in which there are insufficient healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to transport oxygen to the body's tissues. Anemia can cause fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath. During the last year depicted, the prevalence of chronic malnutrition among children under five years old in the Latin American country amounted to 11.5 percent.
