According to a survey of school students aged 16 years old in Europe in 2019, 57 percent of respondents in Slovakia had ever tried cigarettes in their life, with around 30 percent reporting they had smoked in the month before being surveyed. Over half of 16 year-olds had also tried cigarettes in Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, and Lithuania.
