By 2025, the prevalence of obesity among men in Germany is projected to reach approximately 31 percent, while around 25 percent of women are expected to be overweight. This places Germany roughly in the middle of the European rankings. However, doctors have expressed concern about the overall health of the German population, with over 80 percent advocating for a stronger emphasis on preventive measures and improved patient compliance.
Dietary habits in Germany
German cuisine is not typically known for being particularly healthy, given its heavy reliance on bread, meat, and sausage. However, by 2024, around 18 percent of Germans followed a flexitarian diet, primarily consuming plant-based foods while occasionally including dairy, meat, or fish. About six percent adhered to a vegetarian diet, while only four percent avoided animal products entirely. Nonetheless, this placed Germany third in the European comparison in terms of the share of vegetarians in the population.
