In 2020 in France, in the private sector, men earned approximately 15.9 percent more than women, and in the public sector, the salary gap was around 13.1 percent. In general, since 2008 in the private sector, the gap kept reducing going from 21 percent that year to 17.5 ten years later. A similar phenomena was observed concerning wage difference in the public sector, however the salary gap seemed to be slower to decrease. For instance, between 2008 and 2011, the wage difference between men and women even slightly increased, going from 15.3 percent to 17 percent.
