News audiences in the United States have, overall, reduced their engagement with news since 2016. In that year, 51 percent of adults said that they followed the news all or most of the time, a figure which by 2022 had dropped to 38 percent. In the same time period, the percentage of adults who said they hardly ever followed the news almost doubled.
