The gravimetric energy density (or specific energy) of different battery storage systems ranges from an average of over 250 watt-hours per kilogram for lithium-ion batteries to less than 50 watt-hours per kilogram for flow batteries. Solid-state batteries, using a solid state electrolyte solution, have one of the largest specific energies among lithium-ion batteries.
