The ratio of net fee income to total income of the banking industry in Austria increased overall between 2014 and 2023, though with notable fluctuations over the years. Between 2014 and 2019, the ratio increased more or less steadily, reaching 33.9 percent in the last quarter of 2019. In the second quarter of 2020, the ratio dropped to 30 percent. The ratio then started to increase again, reaching 35.3 percent in the third quarter of 2022, which was the highest value reported in the observed period. The first half of 2023 brought another sharp decline, with the ratio of net fee income to total income dropping to 30.2 percent in the second quarter.
