As of 2021, it was estimated that close to 60 percent of women aged 53 years and older in Mexico perceived their state of health as fair. In comparison, only 5.6 percent of women perceived it as excellent and 8.6 percent as poor. On the other hand, around 50 percent of men perceived their state of health as fair and almost 35 percent perceived it as good. Only 6.6 percent of men perceived their health state as poor and nearly 10 percent as excellent. That year, the main diagnosed chronic condition reported by patients aged 60 years and older in Mexico was hypertension.
