Japan: share of people who have a VTuber they like or support 2023

A survey conducted in Japan in September 2023 showed that 16.5 percent of the respondents had a virtual YouTuber (VTuber) they liked or supported. Fans of VTubers engage in a variety of different activities to support VTubers, such as joining fan clubs, translating content into other languages, or engaging in social tipping.

Survey question: "Please tell us about all the things you do for a 'VTuber' you like/support."
Respondents were able to choose from 13 different activities or could alternatively answer that they did not have a VTuber that they liked or supported. Engaging in at least one of the following 13 activities was counted as having a VTuber one likes or supports: (1) viewing online videos, (2) subscribing to a channel, (3) posting on social networking services, etc., (4) purchasing goods or related products / collaboration products (5) social tipping or support / Super Chat, (6) writing in articles or comment sections, (7) creating fan art, (8) participating in events that a "VTuber" participates in, (9) joining or participating in a fan club, (10) translating videos or posts of the person they support, (11) creating cutout videos, (12) posting on a fan blog, (13) other forms of support.
